To create this bowl, I cut and stacked three layers of glass, two purplish-plum, and one clear. On top, I added four wedges of gorgeous iridized glass, fanning them out to create a pinwheel effect with the purple glass. I cut a couple dozen square and rectangular pieces from the irid glass and stacked them at the border of the purple wedges, and in the center of the bowl, slightly overlapping the pieces. I fired the glass at 1450 degrees, in my kiln, to achieve an almost-full fuse. Only the highest level of squares are slightly raised above the other layers of glass. In a subsequent firing, I slumped the glass into a ceramic mold, resulting in this lovely, open bowl, with a wide border. This fused artglass piece is a lovely weight, as there are so many layers of glass. As always, this piece has been signed on the back!
Measurements: 10 1/4" Diameter x 1 1/2" Deep
Food safe. Not reccommended for use in the microwave oven or dishwasher.
This bowl is so pretty, that it would be wonderful in a well-lit artglass collection, but, I think it would be equally lovely as a serving vessel at your holiday meals, a fruit bowl, placed on your dining table or kitchen counter, or even a candle dish, on the coffee table or in the guest bath.
