The squash blossom necklace traditionally originated with the Navajo and Pueblo people of the American southwest. The principle part of the necklace is the crescent shaped pendant called the 'naja', which the native people of the southwest saw as iron ornaments on the horse bridles of the Spanish Conquistadors in the late 1500's. The Navajo and Pueblo "squash blossom" necklace originated around the 1880s and the name was probably assigned to it by the white traders.
This necklace measures 22 inches in length and is secured with a sterling silver clasp. The individual Labradorite cabochons measure 1 3/4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches tall. The 'naja' and each of the 6 cabochons are backed with teal ultra suede.
