When I was little, I always wished I had been born about 100 years earlier. I wanted to wear long skirts every day and thought everything people wear now is ugly and boring.

At the ripe old age of 23, now I realize that you create the world you want around you. In this vein, and by popular demand, I have come up with this little "corset." I got several convos asking me if my regency short stays:

would work under modern clothes. Alas, I told them, they are made of thick fabric and strong lacing that would definitely show under clothing not designed to go over it (such as this one:

After some head-scratching, I used the same pattern as the short stays with some modifications, but cut it out of muslin, which is light, absorbent, and breathable. The gussets are inset with blue Anna Sui lace that I am so in love with right now, with a blue and white cotton stripe underneath. The key to making this little corset work for daily wear is a panel of stretchy white jersey on each side which means that no matter how tightly it's laced, you can still BREATHE! Hurray! It has no bones or anything hard or poky in it. It laces in front through silver grommets. Stretchy adjustable straps and dainty white stretch lace trim on top and bottom complete the wee undergarment.

The corset is only slightly less supportive than an underwire bra. For reference, I am a C cup. The "lift and squish" effect is actually quite breathtaking...although not literally...

It shows very little under a t-shirt, as you can see, but is probably more suited to a button-down shirt.

It makes me feel pretty. I think my little girl self would approve.
