Animal totems fascinate me. The idea of augmenting ones effectiveness in the world by drawing on a spirit from nature, or do we simply draw those qualities we admire from within, and the totem is a sort of inducement? I don't know, but it's been going on a long time.
I came across a guy in a flea market who had a box full of this stuff. His father had been a taxidermist and these were the left overs from 50 years ago. I didn't know what I'd ever do with them, but I knew I had to have them, so I traded him some jewelry and decided one day I'd do something nice to sort of honor the wonderful creatures who once produced them.
This original design handmade sterling silver pendant is cast in sterling silver by the lost wax method. All the work is done right here in my studio in Southern California.
I finish my pieces with a special process I like to call, "Stone Washed". It leaves a beautiful well worn surface..
The design is all original. You won't see it anywhere else. Made to last more than one lifetime of real world wear. It's nice and heavy. Plenty of silver in this one. I don't skimp.
All the work is done by me, using 100% recycled metals, genuine gemstones, and even sometimes, lions claws.
