The Sleepers, by Gustave Courbet was painted in 1866. It is an erotic painting of two naked women lying on a bed and is typical of Courbet's later erotic paintings. It is also known as The Dream, Lust or The Sloth and Friends. Courbet painted The Sleepers for the private collection of Turkish diplomat Khalil-Bey. It wasn't publicly shown until the late 20th century and it's erotic nature was probably hidden behind curtains in Khalil-Bey's private premises.
