The ivory has a gorgeous, rich matte surface. It is ridged and smooth. It was quite something to cut this ancient material.
I chose to build a stately textured ring for this specimen. I oxidized the ring to an inky dark gray, and then polished back the high areas. The band is hammered and oxidized, as well. The ring band is burnished after it is oxidized. This helps to set the darkness in to the metal, and gives it a warm, rich glow. The inkiness will change over time, as the ring continues to oxidize naturally.
The band is a thick 20 gauge, and is 1/2" wide. The tablet of ivory is just over 1" long, and around 7/8" wide.
As I have not yet permanently set this specimen into the ring, it is possible to rebuild this to fit any finger. Just let me know your ring size in during check-out. If you don't know your ring size, please get in touch for assistance.
