The Carved Hearth Broom is a functional fireplace length broom, approx. 30 inches in length, with our “Green Man” or “Tree Spirit” hand sculpted in the hardwood handle. The “Tree Spirit” carving is a traditional European wood carving style dating to the Middle Ages, which, folklore states, would protect one’s home.

It was believed by them of the old religions that if one could capture the spirit of the tree and bring it to their home, it would protect their home and good fortune would follow. Our woodcarvings are completely hand-carved by us using traditional wood carving tools and techniques. We do not use any form of mechanical reproduction, such as rotary tools. We believe in honoring the life of the wood. You can tell and feel the difference in something that has been carved by hand verses industrial equipment. Not only can you use it …… it sweeps better and lasts many times longer than its commercial counterparts. It is extremely functional and decorative as well as being a blessing to your home.

As in all our brooms, the brush fiber is made of only the highest quality 100% broomcorn. The handles are kiln-dried hardwoods from the Ozark Mountains. The raw materials, tools and techniques used date back hundreds of years. We do every aspect of the work, from harvesting the raw materials out of nature to the finished piece. A balance between function, décor and the sacred is our purpose. Many people that collect our work have one for each season and purpose.
