Here is a two lovely antique handwritten french/german letters from the 1800s. The oldest letter is 1855 and the other is 1864.
They are addressed in French and written in GERMAN on the inside.
The letters are in german as the French town of Strasbourg is on the border of Germany and the town used to be part of Germany. Many of the Strasbourg people speak German even though Strasbourg town is part of France now.So the letters were written in france.
There are stamps on the letters. The writing on the cream letter is quite light and hard to read.
They have been written on thin paper and there are no envelopes. The address is written on the outside of the letters and a seal was placed but there is no wax seal remaining.
The letters are old but in good condition for their age. There is discolouring on the letters.
PLEASE NOTE: They have a 'torn/cut' area where the wax seal was and the reader needed to open it so had to tear/cut the paper(see one photo).
There are small marks and quite a bit of discolouring but that adds to the character.(please see photos)
These letters are beautiful and such a wonderful part of history.
