Advent is the season of waiting and preparation. It is historically marked with royal blue or purple (connecting it to the season of Lent as a time of turning in and searching self in preparation for God's revelation).
This Advent Calendar uses an angel, descending, to mark the passing of time. S/he descends one star/ day at a time with the message (angel = angelos = messenger) of Good News that we celebrate at Christmas. On Christmas Eve or morning she can be moved to the final star and a candle lit to mark the arrival of the Christ Child.
Perfect over a Nativity Scene or seasonal nature table.
While this calendar draws on the Biblical story and images, I have chosen to use only 25 stars/ days in December over the more accurate 28 days in the season of Advent.
A hand painted silk banner (blues and purples, 4' long) with stars in various shades of gold. It includes a twig and hand dyed silk ribbon for hanging (adjustable). There is also a silk ribbon with three felted stars adorning the hanger.
The angel is needlefelted with the softest merino. Her hair is natural wool locks. Simply use a straight pin to adhere her each day as she progresses with her song of joy!
