one of the chilean miners became the father of a tiny girl while he was still underground. modern technology allowed him to watch his wife give birth even though he was not yet freed to be physically at her side. they named their baby ‘esperanza’ (which is spanish for ‘hope’).
weeks later he was free. reunited with his wife and holding his precious baby for the first time: what i imagine that felt like was the inspiration for this scarf. three cables attached by vertical strands of yarn. strong, yet flexible. hope.
