The background is a solid piece of gray felt to represent outer space; the hemispheres are a medium or dark blue to represent the water and each continent is given a distinct color. Anyone familiar with Montessori will recognize the color choices!
Young children can learn the continent shapes and names -- and it is a beautiful work of art all by itself!
If you choose the puzzle variety, the continent pieces are removable (with a painted outline for each "puzzle piece").
The wall-hanging option comes with a small pocket across the back to insert a dowel (not included) for hanging.
