The paint used in this design is heat set for duability and non-toxic. Although these mugs are top shelf dishwasher safe, as well as the lids, I recommend hand washing with non-abrasive materials to preserve the color vibrancy. Mugs are micowave safe without the lid on. Paint contains no toxic ingredients and conforms to ASTM D-4236
