So when I saw that I had these lovely barely-blue (or perhaps barely-lavender) opal faceted beads and opalite teardrops, I knew they'd be perfect for this design.
Unlike actual opal with flashes of iridescent fire in a milky base, these glass opal-style beads are more subtle with their translucent glow. I have paired them with beads in a variety of finishes in a delicate palette of pale icy blues and frosted iridescent white, and have suspended the medallions from Sterling silver ear wires.
These were so hard to photograph and are much prettier in person!
The earrings measure about an inch across, and the total length from the tip of the ear wire to the bottom of the teardrop is about two inches. They have just enough weight to hang nicely, but not too much.
