I build these cufflinks of sterling and fine silver, which is then polished to a rich matte brushed lustre. I can also make them in a high shine finish.
Each link is crowned in a gorgeous geode specimen. These little specimens are about1/2- 5/8" across. They are a matched set, as they were once a single geode, which was bisected. A geode is a naturally occurring rock formation, which develops a pocket of crystals inside. Like all crystal formations, these geodes will take on different colour intensity depending upon the light. The fifth picture, with the available geodes, shows the geodes shot in natural light, by a window. If you see a set that looks as though they are different colours, they are not- it is just the way the light is being reflected off one side of the geode, which is sitting at a different angle from its partner.
The geode halves are bezel set into the cuff links. I ensure a good, durable join by using jeweler's epoxy in the bezel. To create added protection for the edges of these little specimens, I burnish the top edge of the fine silver bezel over the rims of the geode. Of course, like all specimen jewelery, these need to be worn with a bit of added care- they will not enjoy being smashed against a hard surface.
The geodes are held snug to your cuff using a curved, 1/2" bar and disc. The disc is domed, and is about 3/8" across.
The geodes halves are of slightly different shapes, as they are a naturally grown, organic object. However, each pair is a very good match to one another.
