Feather pad appliques were a design mainstay in our store for a year or more of the early going. The simplest designs were the favorites. As I began to identify my tastes, I would begin to work more detail into my pieces, adding a bit of "Oriental splash," my name for this generic touch of style I began to refine and use. During my experimentation, I was requested to create a feather hair piece for a particular customer in California, the sort of hair piece for a girl who is adventurous, lavish and charismatic. The type of dramatic design accessory you wear if you are destined for the stage or a gal not fearful of being the star since it definitely makes a bold statement. (Which is a boon to a designer because no one ever really knows what that statement is but you wear it anyway).
As I was designing, around the time royal couple Will and Kate were visiting California, I wanted to add a sense of regal refinement. Crowns usually stand up over the head, I wanted to design one that lay flat. I put over 60 peacock feathers into the piece and added a touch of my "Oriental splash" and came up with a design that flows continuously from one ear to the other with one tapered side. The result is a feather hairpiece that is easy to wear for a fanciful evening dress or a magnificent ball. This design is just a partial example of some of the dozens of things we've dabbed into mixing trends and feathers.
The REGINA design of this hair piece flowed from the motivation to create a bold, regally lavish piece with hints of classic elements.
