This is a 12 inch print of a drawing I made a few years ago. It is part of an on going series of microscopic abstracts. This style of drawing is created by relaxing the precision of my movements, while increasing my dependence on intuition. By repeating a pattern of behavior at length I create various opportunities to create flaws. This process creates layers and the presence of flaws alters the patterns enough to appear organic in nature.
I am very fond of these drawings as they are both organized and chaotic, a visual representation of the tension between opposite movements. They can be seen as landscapes, abstracts, or windows into a smaller universe that exists within our own.
This particular print was the first I made in this series. It is a study of a photograph I found in National Geographic. I only did two studies before leaving observation behind entirely and relying completely on my intuition and memory to create these
