The colors in these copper earrings are the natural patinas produced by slow heating. I first cut the pieces by hand, then file and buff the edges with steel wool to ensure a smooth finish. Then, as the pieces are gently heated with a propane torch , the colors appear. I add the starbursts through torch-tip manipulation. I then polish the backs to raw copper and give both sides 3 coats of clear lacquer to prevent further oxidation and to give them a durable gloss finish. Finally they get a coat of car wax to protect the surfaces against skin oils and acids.

If you place the seven visible colors of the rainbow in order in a circle, the ones opposite each other are known as complementaries and when they are put side-by-side they vibrate off each other......think of orange leaves physically and visually quivering against the background of a blue autumn sky..........all of this is simply a long-winded way of suggesting that these little earrings are a natural for redheads!
