The leather I used for the covers is authentic, and is really old, provenient from a little bag that I found in a fair in Oporto two weeks ago. I believe this to have been a popular model of a clutch due to its unusual shape and design. The cover of this little book is made of the front lower part, the holes near the edges being part of the original sewing.
After cleaning the leather I have found that its preservation state is very good. This leather is thick (~5 mm) and has a few wrinkles and marks but it’s very healthy and strong. I also made a consolidation on it and treated it with special products as it had partly lost its flexibility with time.
The book measures 7.5 x 8.5 cm (3 x 3.3 inches) and has ~ 160 pages (320 sides). The paper inside is cream and has 80 gsm (~20 lb). It will work for writing in ink and dry media.
The book is completed by a simple closing system made of two black suede stripes. The endpages are made of beautiful handmarbled paper wih brown, black and cream veins. The binding is longstitch, made with natural linen thread.
This journal is an art object, I hope you will enjoy!
