This wood wall pocket has a pointed arch and is decorated with branch-like ‘tracery’ that was cut with a jigsaw. Lovingly made by hand, you can still see the some of the pencil lines on the back that mark out the pattern. The elements on each side of the arch are unevenly cut and there are many other small variations.

This piece is akin to tramp art and was likely made from re-purposed wood from a crate or other source. Can’t quite say what kind of wood it is--lightweight and soft, but doesn’t look like pine. Nailed with small brads. Difficult to date with precision, probably early 20th century.

Measures just under 8 1/2 inches high, 8 3/8 inches wide, 4 1/8 inches deep.

Overall condition is good. There are light scratches and bumps to the wood, with small losses around the hole for hanging, especially on the back. The rightmost point may have lost a bit of height, but that may just have been how it was made.
