Scent Description: Subtle, but true orange scent is provided by natural sweet orange essential oil. This essential oil also gives this shampoo its natural color (which can vary from the photo above).
This is a super-conditioning bar of soap with great lathering power, and is made with a unique combination of nourishing and softening oils and butters. Jojoba oil is a penetrating moisturizer that is similar to our hair’s own natural oils, and is rich in protein and minerals. Meadowfoam seed oil adds shine and moisture to the hair and scalp, which are often dried out by the daily washing process. Wheat germ oil is rich in vitamins A, B, E, and D, improving the health of your hair from its root, to its tip. A mix of olive and castor oil attracts moisture to the hair and is rich in vitamins, while cocoa butter helps to soften and moisturize. Coconut oil works to create an incredible lather, and palm oil ensures a long-lasting bar of soap.
★ New to Natural Shampoo Bars? Here are a few things to know:
*There is a big difference between natural and commercial shampoos: natural bars don't contain the preservatives, or the sulfates that cleanse by stripping everything – not just the daily dirt buildup but also the good natural oils on your hair. This means that natural shampoos leave hair generally more moisturized and with much more texture (as opposed to the sleek and squeaky feel).
*You may also find that your hair will need to adapt to the shampoo bars over time (don’t give up if after 2 or 3 days your hair is acting ‘differently’!). Many people's hair tends to take a while to get accustomed to a natural shampoo when switching away from commercial shampoos - it is part of a 'detoxifying' process as the synthetics that have built up on your hair are slowly removed. To help your hair through this detox process, you may find that doing a daily or every-other-day vinegar rinse will help to remove excess buildup (we provide instructions with your new shampoo bar:).
*Once your hair has adjusted to your new shampoo bar, you may want to continue with weekly vinegar rinses to keep your hair’s pH balanced, help prevent tangles, and remove soap and product buildup.
*Shampoo bars can be a little challenging if you live in an area that has hard water. Hard water means that you will need to use more soap to get a good lather, and that soap is more difficult to rinse away. The minerals in hard water can react with soap, causing excess residue and tangling of the hair. If you have hard water, you may want to try using a vinegar rinse more frequently or using a water softener in your home.
All DressGreen soaps are made fresh from scratch with high quality oils and butters using the cold process method. You’ll never find any filler oils, animal oils, or mineral oil/petroleum products in any of these bars! What you will find are skin-loving and nourishing oils, protective and moisturizing butters, and high quality essential or fragrance oils. You will also find sodium hydroxide (also known as lye) in the ingredient list - without lye, there is no such thing as a bar of soap. However, there is no lye in the final bar of soap itself as it reacts in the soap-making process called saponification. All DressGreen soap is allowed to cure for a minimum of one month, ensuring a high-quality, long-lasting bar. And all soap is also pH tested and superfatted to ensure a mild, skin-safe bar. This is a handcrafted soap that is also handcut by me (no machines involved), so there will be variations in size, shape, and coloring from the photo above.
To ensure the long life of your soap, store the bar in a cool place, out of direct sunlight until you’re ready to use it. In your shower, store the bar away from the direct water stream, and out of any standing water.
