Star Urchins are my modern interpretation of a Polish folk art decoration, often called a porcupine ball, a style of ornament making that dates back beyond a hundred years. To me, they look like stars or sea urchins, so I call them Star Urchins, but their spiky form has been likened to dahlias and fireworks, too.
I make each Star Urchin completely by hand, and each of mine has 80 hand-formed points. My family has been making them for over half a century and my many years of practice produces a very neat ornament. They look delicate and celestial, take patience and a little while to make. Hang them in a window or from a branch as a modern decoration, or on a Christmas tree among your other special ornaments.
Each Star Urchin is packaged in a clear box for storage or gift giving and has a loop for hanging.
I recommend 3-inch and 4-inch Star Urchins for average-size Christmas trees. Please contact ("convo") me if you are interested in a different size, quantity or color that you don't see here.
