This nifty soldering project will convert your manual typewriter into a USB-ready keyboard, which will work with any Mac or PC computer. It will also make a great keyboard stand for the iPad and other tablets.
NOTE: This is the original "Solder-It-Yourself" version of the kit. If you don't want to do any soldering, or if you just want the process to be easier in general, try the new "Easy-Install" kit instead: http://etsy.me/12vNfNT
This kit comes with two blank circuit boards and all necessary electronic parts needed to convert your typewriter to USB. It should take about 4-5 hours to complete this fun project, depending on skill level with a soldering iron (intermediate to advanced).
A soldering iron and solder
A dremel rotary tool for sanding (sandpaper or exacto blade will work too)
Tweezers and Pliers
Hot Glue Gun and/or Superglue
Wire (22 - 26 awg stranded wire is best)
1" roll of gaffers tape (from art store or hardware store or on www.findtape.com). Duct tape will work, too.
Detailed assembly instructions are available at: www.instructables.com/id/usb-typewriter/
This kit will work with the vast majority of manual typewriters, but there are some exceptions. If you are unsure if it will work with your typewriter, check out www.usbtypewriter.com/compatibility to make sure. If you want to make sure it will work with your tablet, check out www.usbtypewriter.com/tablets.html
