One easy way to make a bench is with two 6" treated deck boards for seat. You can easily add a 2 x 4 across the top of the wrought steel legs to increase the useful width or height of these legs. You can go up to 24" wide for table tops by using a board underneath the Top to rest on the legs..
That would be (4) 2 x 6s or (3) 2 x 8s.
Yes, the best part about this leg design is that you use your own wood material to make any length from about a foot to 8 feet.
