Recyclable Glass Jar
I drink red chai tea every morning. I never really gave it's ingredients much thought until my 8 year old came home from cooking camp with a recipe for homemade chai. As we were crushing cardamom pods and counting clove buds to add to our pot I thought to myself, "hmmm, this would smell really good as an infused oil..."
And so struck by inspiration I ran to my supply cabinet and found a gallon of raw, virgin, organic coconut oil- the kind that smells like the tropics, like vacation, like your favorite fancy drinks (pina coladas), like, well, like my kind of heaven.
I added whole cloves, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla beans, nutmeg, cardamom, and black peppercorns! It sat "brewing" on my stove in liquid form for 6 weeks. Then I strained out the herbs and put in 4 oz glass jars.
It smells like no other smell I know. I can't explain it, but it smells sweet. How can something smell sweet? It is plenty coconut-y, but the spices add another soft layer.
You can use this on your skin, your scalp, your hair, heck I even made shortbread out of it (I really did, it was delicious).A little will go along way because it is pure oil, nothing added (except for the herbs that were infused in it). Best of all, coconut oil has a really long shelf life due to it being naturally antibacterial- so no preservatives!
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
This oil will turn to liquid at temperatures above 75 degrees. Put it somewhere cooler to solidify again.
Granulation may occur (little lumps form)- this does not affect the quality of the oil.
