My favourite sculptor is Constantin Brancusi and within his work I’m especially interested in the idea of ‘Pure Form’.
I made my small plaster heads in homage to this great master. They are inspired by the ovoid, in particular his exquisite ‘Sleeping Muse’.
I love materials and shapes that come to life with light. In this case, the smooth, flowing lines of the faces are accentuated and their expression deepened through the interaction of light and shade.
From my hand-carved master copy, I have cast the faces in fine sculpting plaster. Each head is hand finished and therefore unique. I have given each head a number to identify the particular piece. This is ‘Dreamy’ No 1. Hand finishing also enables me to give each head a slightly different resting position. ‘Dreamy 1’ can lie on its side or sit face up.
Dimensions: Approximately 9 x 6 x 5 cm / 3 ½ x 2 ¼ x 2”
