These beautiful little boots look like they have just walked out of a fairy tale!
I don't know which part of Asia they are from. They might be Chinese, but the sides have embroidered floral panels which make me question that assumption!
They have been constructed with several types of fabric and techniques: applique work, crewel embroidery in satin stitch and couching, and some basic quilting to the soles. There is also a band of machine made ribbon with tiny birds and the majority of the top stitching has been done on a machine, so I think they might date to the early part of the 20th century.
There is a lot of wear to the more fragile areas made from satin, and the satin on one boot is more faded than the other. There is also some fraying to the black cotton lining fabric at the top of the boots, but the interiors are in good condition. Please see all the photos and convo me with any questions.
The soles of the boots measure 4" long and they are 7" high. They could probably stand a bit of gentle wearing, but are really more appropriate for collectors. Thanks for looking!
