PLEASE NOTE: THE EARRINGS IN THE PHOTO ARE SOLD ALREADY- the photos are used for reference purposes, so you can see what your earrings will look like. As crystals are organic, natural formations, your crystals may vary slightly in size and shape from the ones pictured here. They will be the same colour, and will be as close to the ones in the photos- unless you request otherwise- as possible.
I create these earrings from ten little terminating points of aqua aura quartz. Aqua aura quartz results when clear quartz is exposed, under great heat, to pure gold. The combination of heat and precious metals creates the most luxurious and intense flash within the quartz- it is a vibrant blue with a warm iridescence.
These earrings are a opulent cascade of tiny crystals, each hanging at a varying height. The flash of the quartz is perfectly complimented by the bright, brushed finish I have given the silver.
I began by hand-cutting each little point to the correct length. I then built ten tiny fine and sterling silver bezels within which to cup the points.
To the tops of the bezels, I soldered fine sterling silver chains in various lengths. The chains are strung from small sterling silver bars. These bars were then soldered onto small, rounded sterling silver forms. The posts are also sterling silver.
After hand-burnishing each bezel and chain with a steel brush, I used jeweler`s epoxy to set the points into place. The final step was to close the bezels around the points, and re-burnish the sterling.
These little earrings have around a 4cm hang, and come with silicone backings- the snug fit of these backs ensures that these little sprays of crystals will not fall out of the ear.
I can build the earrings with longer chains, if you would like. I can also make them with hooks instead of posts- please see the final photo for an example of how these look with hooks.
