This is a stack of (3) porcelain bowls that are here offered as a set. The bowls rise up from the table's surface and the walls abruptly turn up vertically. The frieze created has an etched vertical design. They were thrown on a potter's wheel and trimmed after they dried a bit. Then they were decorated using a shellac resist painted with a small brush over the surface of the vertical frieze panels. The shellac is a resist and after it dried a wet sponge was used to "etch" out the un-shellacked areas. After that a black slip was applied to the etched out areas. For a more extensive description of this technique, you can go to http://jimgottuso.wordpress.com and click on the article in the right column that was recently in Pottery Making Illustrated magazine. They were fired, then glazed with a transparent gold/yellow on the exterior and a white glaze on the interior, then fired again. They are dishwasher and microwave safe and all glazes are LEAD FREE. Although porcelain is known as being fragile, these bowls are quite strong. Please note a couple things: Although they are offered as a set of (3), I will break them up into singles if one requests me to. Shoot me an email at go2sew(at)gmail(dot)com or convo me within etsy. Also, these are one-of-a-kind hand thrown and although they stack within each other, they are not perfectly identical in size or shape. All three are around 6 inches in diameter and from 2.25 to 2.5 inches in height. Stacked they are 4.5 inches high.
Note: I will ship anywhere that the US Postal Service ships which is almost everywhere. I have successfully shipped to England, Belgium and Australia. If you live outside the US and are not on the list below, just send me a message via Etsy or email me at go2sew(at)gmail(dot)com and I will pack the piece, take it to the Post Office, get the shipping price, and edit the listing with said price to your particular country.
