Tentacle and Carapace is a hand-printed calendar featuring images of strange and wonderful sea creatures. It measures 6 inches wide by nine inches high.
The names of the months were printed from vintage wood type from the Dawson collection at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The dates and images were letterpress printed using polymer plates. All the drawings are by Niko Silvester (that's me!).
The whole calendar was printed on a Vandercook Universal II proof press (probably the rarest of the Vandercook family) in shades of green and blue, with a warm orangey brown for the sea creatures.
Only 30 copies of this calendar were printed, of which perhaps 20 or fewer were available for sale. Each calendar is signed and numbered on the back and includes 12 images (one for each month, of course) plus front and back covers. It will come packaged in a mylar sleeve to keep it clean. Each page is holepunched at the center top to hang however you please.
