The top head swivels, but it is not loose like a bobble head. It is a smooth solid wood circle. This piece goes down into the base which is also a very smooth solid wood. On the outside is worn bark, that is carved and a handpainted scene of a man on a boat with mountains all around and birds in the sky.
She measures appx 12 inches tall and is in wonderful shape.
I have scoured the internet for another like her and one cannot be found. More common are the wooden kokeshi dolls that are painted with colors.
Please note the hairline crack across dolls head going down the side (it does not take away from her look) I dont know if it was carved with this on it or not?
I also do not know an exact age but these were popular as gifts for tourists starting back in the 1950's.
