Vintage (pre-1970's) honey Lucite is beautifully variegated - some opaque honey color and a bit of clear- making this piece anything but flat...
Lucite is set in a hand-formed bezel setting of Sterling silver. The inside of the setting is protected during oxidation/blackening of the outside and the chain- leaving a span of silver under the "bridge" which allows a bit of light in and the resulting reflection makes the honey glow. I'm obsessive about contrast, light and dark, vintage and new, wood and metal, natural and manmade... and fake wood, plastic wood, faux bois... I love all of my pieces, but this one has a special place in my heart....
This glow also enhances the appearance of the "lines" of different tones of Lucite - giving the focal point an almost woodgrain appearance.
This was totally unexpected when I started building this piece. The result makes me smile.
Pendant measures a bit under 5/8" wide (1.5cm) and 1 5/8"
(6 cm) from the top of the handmade bail to the bottom of the pendant. The chain measures 18" in length and is attached to either side of the bail, with a sterling silver coil between the two...
