Fern is made from my treasure bin of most loved strips, chunks and hoarded goodies. She started with a piece of my own design, her watercolor painted face - the Green edition, printed at Spoonflower for me exclusively. I then picked strips and pieces to make her body, auditioning and arranging for a beautiful and unique look. Her front body section is what I call Jumble Piecing.

Her arms are a soft batik, stuffed and stitched at the elbow for a gentle bend. Her legs are a beloved black and white print from Jane Sassaman. The front side of her quilted wings are a multi-colored batik with circles and rings, the back features a plush lime Minky fabric from www.MonadnockFabric.etsy.com , she has the softest Minky! There is a thick layer of cotton batting in the wings as well.
Fern has loopy strips of batik for her antennae, you can hang her up from them or pose her on a shelf if you like. She looks lovely on a bed against the pillows.
There will never be another just like Fern as I am determined to make them all slightly different. Shapes and patterns of bodies, wings and appendages will all differ as I go through the creating process.
Fern is not a toy for babies or small children but she is suitable for children who are gentle with their loved creatures and those who know to take care. She is just as durable as all my creations, the seam around the body is double sewn, sometimes triple sewn. Due to the process of Spoonflower printing, he must be washed sparingly and with great care, only cool gentle wash cycle, hand wash is okay too. Phosphate free soaps only. No dryer please but lay her flat in a warm place out of direct sunlight, fabric will fade in sun.
