These ceramic blooms are hand-built with low-fire clay and glazed with a black stain and covered with transparent glaze. The pods feel very smooth to the touch, but the black lines highlight the textures. A red glass frit is melted into the center of the two red pods and recycled glass dots the top of the light blue pod to catch the sun or ambient light.
The largest pod measures approximately 1.75 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The middle pod with the light blue glass is 1.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The smallest one is 1.25 inches tall and 1.75 inches wide. Each has a 3/8 inch hole on the bottom for a nail or garden stake.
Note: if you are placing these pods in the garden, bring them inside if temperatures go below freezing, as cracking of the glaze may occur when the clay becomes wet, then freezes and thaws. I have only ever had one crack in 8 years (that's right, I leave mine out. I'm a risk-taker!), but it could happen!
