This spiffy hat is the perfect finish for your Victorian ensemble. It is a top hat style, meant to "perch" on the head. This shape would work equally well for Elizabethan! It is my own pattern, with a wired buckram frame hand-covered in a gorgeous red and green shot dupioni silk using classic millinery techniques. This silk has such a lovely shimmer! The brim is bound in matching silk.
The hat is trimmed with a patterned green bias band, a green fabric fan accent, and a cluster of curly brown feathers for height. Three vintage buttons add a focal point of interest at the base of the fan.
The hat is lined with silk taffeta, and has a sweatband, a classic millinery detail. This style is meant to "perch," not fit around the head. It has a 19" circumference and the hat is 4" tall. I have included four synthetic horsehair tabs along the sweatband, allowing you to bobby pin the hat to your hairstyle. Of course, if you have a hat pin, that can be used as well. Currently the horsehair is a light blonde shade, but I can easily change that with sharpie if your hair is dark, just let me know!
I have been trained in theatrical millinery techniques, and this hat is made to hold up to many years of normal wear. Because of the buckram and silk, care should be taken that it does not get wet.
