A popular t-shirt amongst geologist, the phrase "Gneiss Schist" has been handstamped onto a brass disc. Underlying the disc is a copper disc embellished with circles.
Gneiss and schist are both metamorphic rocks. Gneiss is pronouned "Nice" and indicates very high grade (high pressure, high temperature) metamorphism. It is a swirly, banded rock and is very hard.
Schist develops in moderate grade metamorphic conditions and can contain platy minerals such muscovite, biotite, chlorite and hornblende. During metamorphism, these minerals preferentially align, giving the rock its characteristic foliation (thin layers). My favorite thing about schists are the recrystallized minerals that can grow during metamorphism: garnets, the aluminosilicates - kyanite, sillimanite and andalusite, staurolite (fairy crosses) and tourmaline to name a few!
* Perfect for the nerdy geologist or metamorphic petrologist in your life!
* Copper and Brass handstamped discs
* 16" copper ball chain
