Made from bits of an oversized 1966 Britannica World Atlas, these books unfold in a malleable array of pages. When closed, the folds return to an orderly stack.
The atlas was packed with quirky data colorfully displayed on dozens of political and topographical maps from around the world.
Each of my books is one-of-a-kind. This listing is for a single book that I will select and send. Yours could feature maps detailing information such as Australia's population density (circa 1966), the Bering Strait, or wind patterns of Africa. No matter what, you'll find intriguing vintage cartography inside and out.
Size: 2.75" x 2.75"
Length when unfolded: 21.5"
Style: lotus (or star) fold
All books are made in a smoke-free, pet-friendly environment.
About the artist:
Katie Gonzalez studied the art of bookmaking in Cortona, Italy during the summer of 2006. Visiting a medieval bindery, working with luxurious materials, and learning to make paper by hand instilled a sense of traditional techniques into her work. She combines that background with her contemporary graphic design degree from the University of Georgia. She lives and works in East Nashville with her husband and her brindle bullmastiff.
