This is one in a series of photographs of bird's nests found on land in Upstate NY. Most birds don't reuse their nests year after year (though sometimes another species will inhabit an abandoned nest), and in any case most of these nests wouldn't survive our pretty harsh winters and would end up on the ground (which is where some were found anyway!).
The eggs weren't stolen from nests- at least not recently. They were collected by our great-grandfather, back before people knew better than to take wild bird eggs!
