these glasses are unbelievably precious. they probably came from a 12-piece set, one glass for each month, but i found these two side-by-side and thought they were the perfect pair.
each glass bears a lovely graphic on the front along with the name of the flower and month printed in delicate script. on the back is a little blurb printed in the same script. they read as follows:
....
"poppy - august" on the front, and on the back:
"poppy
flower of august
these flowers of
sleepy oblivion
also symbolize
fond remembrance.
'-always it is a
flame, and warms
the wind like a
flown ruby.'
-ruskin"
....
chrysanthemum - november" on the front, and on the back:
"chrysanthemum
flower of november
november's flower
has become a symbol
of honesty, goodwill
and integrity.
the golden flower
of imperial japan-
it became a sign of
mobility."
....
each glass measures 3" across at the base, 2.5" across at the rim, and 4.5" tall. they are in beautiful vintage condition.
