Started a year ago, I had this undersea motif vision of dancing kelp keeping in time to that Ringo classic.
Hints of Sea life and detritus, filtered down to the depths and yet animate in the currents.
I wanted the piece to have a black and white somewhat monotone hue in the silver, to portray the eerie light at depth and to highlight the opals contrast, so it is lightly and evenly Sulphided, save for highlighting. This is a permanent treatment.
The dual opals are a boulder opal from Australia, left, and a sandstone opal from Arizona on the right. The Australian has a wee window in the opal to the back so I set it open to see light through. The deep vibrant opals were an instant match to the effect I wanted for deep sea colors.
Much of the metalwork is fused.
A good start to the new year having set the stones and finished just last week.
Aproximately 53mm x 56mm in size.
