The fourth of the Letters from the North samplers is perhaps the most traditional, as I used antique sampler elements and adapted them to fit my design. For this sampler I took elements from Scandinavian and Dutch samplers, mixed with original designs. It features a large flower pot flanked by various animals, including birds, deer and peacocks. Divided by a decorative band, the top half of the sampler features a small alphabet and a crown. As used to be customary with old samplers, the letters J and U are missing as they would be replaced by I and V instead. In the Netherlands Q was often replaced by KV or KW.
It measures 139 x 129 stitches, and when embroidered on 32 count linen (12 threads/cm) the size would be approximately 8.6" by 8" (22x20cm).
