From my "Farm House Favorites" series. When visiting my friend in Hamburg Germany, we went to her sister's farm. She lived in one of those thatched roof house barns. I had always dreamed they were so quaint and cozy. The smoke from the fireplace wafting right through the twig roof. Haha! To my surprise the house smelled like a barn. For me, that was okay...but for some others...not so. Her kitchen door led right to her dairy cows. Convenient for a farmer in rough weather. I drove my traveling companions crazy stopping the car in the German countryside every time I saw one of these barn/houses. I spent a whole morning watching workmen put on a roof. They sort of weave a giant basket.
In this image is is raining, as it did most of my time in the North of Germany. I must have taken a 100 photos of these barns. #22/50.
