Amazing and strange vintage fraternal enameled piece with a with what appears to be a bearded Viking, complete with horns. Deep translucent red enamels over his head, a bright row of robin's egg blue dots at the brim, and bright, opaque white horns. Three rings in back to sew it to something (likely a fez) or make it into a necklace. The detailing on this piece is incredibly fine, beautifully made. From the detail, the materials, and the quality of its execution, I guessed this piece was from the 1800s, and likely Scandinavian. But it gets better...

A fellow Etsian contacted with a link to a fraternal organization founded in 1889 called the Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm.

Here's an excerpt from their history:

"The ritual is original and unique. The spectacular ceremonial requires a cast of thirty (30) or more and offers unlimited opportunities in stage activities and stunt performance. Its proper rendition requires a large stage, elaborate costumes, and stage settings. It is mysterious, startling and spectacular with a Persian atmosphere. While pervaded with a spirit of wholesome fun, it teaches a serious lesson which lingers with the initiate, instilling in him a spirit of optimism, a kindly feeling for his brother man, and an impression of GOOD FELLOWSHIP, which is something devoutly to be desired. "
