Owl plush Queen and King of France, collectible plush toys.
I originally made these plush for the famous Plush You! show that took place in Seattle at Kristen Rask's amazing store/gallery, Schmancy. I was incredibly fortunate to be selected for her annual show (the show you need to be in when you are a plush maker!) and these two plush were part of my submission for it.
Please check out my Flickr page for more pictures on the ''making of'' and details of each of the pieces! Etsy only allows 5 and it doesn't do justice to all the work I put into entirely hand sewing them :)
I always wanted to make a plush of an historical figure and since I am French I thought that the famous and controversial royal couple of Marie-Antoinette and Louis the XVIth would be perfect! Of course I made them as owl plush because it's so much more fun ;)
I immediately knew I wanted Marie-Antoinette to have one of her famous and elaborate hairdos, and more particularly one with a nautical theme... hence the project got more complicated to execute but also much more fun!
I also had gotten some great lace and ribbons from my grandma back in France and I knew I wanted to incorporate it in both of their garments.
The linen used for the King's collar and the lace used for MA's dress are particularly beautiful and they have been collected by my grandmother from great aunts, which bring us to about 1910/1920 for some of it. I cut off an hand embroidered handkerchief that my great grandma had done to make the king's collar (yes it was very hard to cut it up and I still feel a little guilty about it!).
I cut, assembled and hand sewn all the pieces for each plush and then I also made the cake! The whole project took me about two weeks to make and I can say I was pleased with the result. I hope whoever will purchase it will enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!
