The tree begins with great-grandparents, one set on each side of the tree, from these, the grandparents, Chet & Liz, whose branches join at the center of a heart of branches. From them, the main branches are their four children, Paul, Trish, Bill and Matt. For each sibling, their branches stretch through a heart to their spouse, and from each heart springs the next generation, all the great-grandchildren.
Each person is represented by a life-sized leaf rubbing from the tree associated with their date of birth and information regarding the attributes of each tree is attached to the reverse of the canvas. There was also a second copy so the recipient didn't need to remove the canvas from the wall to explain the tree to any inquisitive visitors !
I LOVED creating this canvas. It measures 2' x 3', much larger than my most popular size of 14" x 14".
I received this lovely note after this gift was presented at Christmas.
"Matt's Dad was so impressed! This is the man who doesn't want or get Christmas presents. The family tree almost brought him to tears, or as he said "now this, is a present." He then produced an old dictionary, and on each of the days his grandkids were born, had placed a leaf under their initial. He has ten leaves now, in his old dictionary. It was a beautiful moment."
