As seen on the Martha Stewart Show on April 26th, 2012! I was extremely lucky to be invited to be in the audience of the all Etsy Martha Stewart Show and even got to speak to Martha herself on camera and mention my shop!
This sweet little Eastern Bluebird makes me happy with the promise of spring! My aunt is part of the North American Bluebird Society and has a community of Bluebird houses that she keeps and monitors every year in a public park. Every February the whole family will go down to the park to get the houses ready for spring! Bluebirds are so rare in NY and NJ because even though they are indigenous, non-indigenous birds have taken over what little habitat they have left (they are cavity dwelling birds and are very specific on where they will nest). Enough history - ha! I just love the little guys, cutest little birds with a sweet song.
I created this bluebird in punchneedle embroidery, which is akin to an ancient rug hooking technique on a smaller scale.
Hand dyed embroidery floss is used in this design for depth. His little wings are done on a higher setting on my punch needle than his body, for a fun 3D effect.
A 5 inch (12.7 cm) circle of eco-felt is attached to the back (made from 100% post consumer plastic bottles), which will be initialed by me! :)

FYI:
Some elements may vary slightly depending upon availability of products needed to create the art. Each one is hand drawn (no pattern) so please allow for subtle differences. I endeavor to stick as closely to original as possible but sometimes thread shades will vary slightly - as most are hand dyed. The weaver's cloth is also hand dyed and though the same brand and color dye will be used as the original to dye the weaver's cloth, shades may vary slightly from the original pictured depending on your computer screen and dye lot.
Because he is made especially for you, each one will be slightly different - making this truly a one of a kind piece of art you will treasure
The Eastern Bluebird arrives in pretty eco-friendly packaging all set for gift giving and comes with a small brass nail for hanging.
