A beautiful black ring with the Southern Cross, Alpha Centuari, Beta Centauri and the reference point for South as a motif.
Coming from South Africa, I always find the sight of the Southern Cross pleasing. It reminds me that I'm home after my travels.
Ring size: Adjustable - will comfortably fit size 6.5 to 8.5 (roughly M to Q)
Dome: 2.3cm (.6 inches)
When purchasing the ring - please include your ring size then I will form it to the correct size.
==== Moving Sale ====
I'm moving countries mid May 2011 and want to streamline my jewelry range before the move. The price has already been discounted by 15%.
======================
Materials: Copper and sterling silver ring base.
Manufacture techniques:
I saw circle out of copper sheet and form it to a dome.
I patina the ring to get the variable background to the stars. The patina is protected with a laquer. Please note that scratching the surface of the ring will damage the patina.
The disc is riveted onto the ring base.
Inspiration
In my Starfinder range I explore the relationship between civilisation and science. I find it comforting that we, as a species, have been using the stars in our collective journey to understand the universe better.
The second image includes a diagram on how you use the stars to find South.
I call this a wayfinding ring because we've used the North Star through the ages in navigation. As an Information Architect wayfinding is one of the things I'm very interested in.
I also have a North Star or Polar star wayfinding ring.
