These vases, pod vases as I call them, are perfect for the flowers kids bring in from outside or for the remnants of an aging bouquet. The opening in each vessel is about the size of a pencil, so they’re great for zinnias and lots of other common garden flowers. This set is shades of browns, tans, and glossy grays on stoneware. It was fired in a wood kiln, which is what provides the natural-looking finish and variations. Rather than the color coming from a glaze applied before firing, the browns and grays come from the color of the clay and from the ash and atmosphere inside the wood kiln. I particularly like how, on this set, the glossy gray side contrasts with the brown underside, where the ash didn't settle. It makes a nice line. This is about 8 inches wide by 5 inches tall. Water tight, of course. The vases are thrown and the tray is handbuilt. The pieces are all fixed together, so they won’t go tumbling off your window sill. Easy to fill in the kitchen sink. I make these pretty regularly, so have a look to see what other colors are available as well.
