Oak II is one in a series of four Oak prints. The prints are created through a meticulous process of burning and sanding the wood until the rings of the tree are at the perfect depth to ink and print by hand. When printing, I trace each of the lines of the tree with my fingers until they are perfectly mirrored onto the paper.
The tree used for this project holds significance in my life. It grew on the banks of the Mississippi River in Pepin, WI, where I spent my summers growing up. The tree fell this summer during a storm around the same time I moved out of my childhood home onto my own in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
