Binding:
This book was sewn with navy blue waxed linen thread in the ancient Coptic binding style, which allows the stitching to become a decorative element on the spine. Pages lay flat when open for easy journaling or sketching.
Papers:
For the covers, I selected a Japanese chiyogami paper printed with blue, white, and silver leaves on a sky blue background. Coordinating blue paper was used for the inside covers. A beautiful silver paper was used for the guards (the paper wrapped around the six sections of pages that is seen along the spine). The interior pages are made from a lightly textured cream paper.
Photo corners:
This book includes eight handmade photo corners, folded from coordinating silver paper, so you can attach your favorite photos to the inside of the covers. You can attach one horizontal 4" x 6" photo to the inside of the front cover, and one vertical 4" x 6" photo to the inside of the back cover. What an elegant way to add a personal touch to your wedding guest book or journal!

About the artist:
Katie Gonzalez studied the art of bookmaking in Cortona, Italy during the summer of 2006. Visiting a medieval bindery, working with luxurious materials, and learning to make paper by hand instilled a sense of traditional techniques into her work. She combines that background with her contemporary graphic design degree from the University of Georgia. She lives and works in East Nashville with her husband and her brindle bullmastiff.
