You can also see that the rims are "inset" - that is the inside of the rims curve slightly inward before dipping toward the outside edge. From an artistic standpoint, this inset strongly defines the interior "working area" of the bowl. On the practical side, insetting creates a good handhold and allows the inside of the bowl to gradually thicken toward the bottom, giving perfect balance and great "feel" in the hand.
Like all my bowls, this set was soaked overnight in pure walnut oil* for a durable, food-safe finish. Walnut oil is a penetrating, hardening oil that penetrates into the wood, then hardens to form a long-lasting finish. (It is what chemists call a "polymerizing" oil. In that sense, it's behaves like tung oil and linseed oil, except that it does not have any of heavy metal driers typically found in those commercial products.)
The larger bowl is just under 14 inches in diameter by 4 inches tall, while the inner bowl measures just under 11 inches in diameter by 2-1/2 inches tall.
